Cheese Straw Hearts.

I never imagined Cheese Straws would be so easy to make. They are perfect for any party, buffet, lunch box or snack and you’ll be whipping them up over and over again!

To make around 15 of these Heart Shaped Cheese Straws, you will need:

4oz/ 100g Self Raising Flour

50g/2oz Butter/ Margarine

3oz/ 75g Cheese

1 egg, beaten

A pinch of Mustard Powder

A pinch of Salt

Tools/Equipment :

7cm x 5cm Heart Shaped Cutter

Large mixing bowl

Fork, for combining mixture

Lined or greased baking tray/s

Rolling pin

Preheat the oven to 180c/ 350f  and line or grease a baking tray.

Mix the flour, salt and mustard powder in a large bowl, then gently rub in the butter/margarine to form breadcrumbs.

Add the cheese and sufficient egg to combine all the mixture together, to form a stiff dough.

Roll out the dough, very thinly (approximately just under 1cm), then begin to cut out the hearts. If you’d prefer to make cheese straws, simply use a knife to cut the mixture into thin strips, to the desired length. 🙂

Place on a baking tray and bake for approximately 10-15 minutes. Don’t worry if you over brown them a bit. They still taste great!

Once cooked, allow to cool, then enjoy.

We just love this recipe… and it’s so versatile. We even made vechicles out of it a little while ago! …. Kids in the Kitchen, Cookery Challenge. Cheese…..
